A De Willem, West Coast Demerara resident drowned on Sunday morning, after he and his friends went for a swim in the ocean, near the De Willem Koker.
The dead man has been identified as 26-year-old Rajendra Persaud, who was a mechanic.
Stabroek News was told that Persaud and his friends went swimming sometime around 4 am, when he was swept away by a wave in the Atlantic Ocean.
His friends, this newspaper was told, tried tirelessly to save him but they were unsuccessful.
Persaud was punlicd out from the ocean at approximately 4pm, when his body resurfaced at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.
A post-mortem examination that was performed yesterday confirmed that Persaud died as a result of drowning.
