Fletcher, Samuels shine as Sixers, Victorians win again

SYLHET, Bangladesh, CMC – West Indies batsmen Andre Fletcher and Marlon Samuels both extended their run of form as their respective franchises logged wins in the Bangladesh Premier League here yesterday.

Playing in the second match of a doubleheader at the Sylhet International Stadium, Fletcher struck 48 as Sylhet Sixers marched to their third win in as many matches with a 33-run victory over Darren Sammy’s Rajshahi Kings.

Sent in, the red-hot Sixers posted a challenging 205 for six off their 20 overs with opener Upul Tharanga top-scoring with 50 and Danushka Gunathilaka carving out 48.

Sri Lankan Tharanga put on 101 runs for the first wicket with Fletcher who struck five fours and three sixes in an exciting 30-ball innings.

West Indies seamer Kesrick Williams was the best bowler with two for 39.

In reply, Kings managed 172 for eight off their 20 overs, with Englishman Luke Wright top-scoring with 56 off 39 deliveries and New Zealander James Franklin getting 35.

Sammy lasted nine balls for his nine before holing out to long-off off pacer Abul Hasan who finished with three for 22.

Earlier, Comilla Victorians won their second game with an eight-wicket victory over Chittagong Vikings, thanks to an unbeaten 35 from West Indies stroke-maker Marlon Samuels.

Sent in, Vikings rallied to 143 for seven off their 20 overs with New Zealander Luke Ronchi leading with 40 and Windies star Dwayne Bravo grabbing two for 29 with his medium pace.

 

In reply, Victorians got 48 from England’s Jos Butter as they got home comfortably in the 18th over.

Buttler posted 43 for the first wicket with Liton Das (23) and a further 57 for the second wicket with Imrul Kayes who made 33.

Samuels arrived at the fall of Buttler’s wicket to hammer four fours and a six in an 18-ball cameo, adding 44 with Kayes in an unbroken third wicket partnership.
