A logger was granted bail yesterday after he denied any involvement in two robberies.
It is alleged that Glen Day, 29, of 556 ‘A’ Field Sophia, on November 5, at Kitty, in the company of others and armed with knives, robbed Edward Layne of a Samsung phone, valued at $70,000, a polo wallet and $100,000.
The second charge stated that on September 9, at Kitty, together with others, Day robbed Juan Mentore of a $75,000 gold chain and an iPhone, valued at $61,000.
Day denied both charges after they were read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore objected to bail being granted, while voicing his fear that if released the accused will not attend court.
Moore added that the accused was positively identified by the complainants.
The accused, however, told the court that he was nowhere in the area when the November robbery took place. He stated that he went up to the Linden highway last Wednesday for log work and returned on Sunday. He added that when he returned, he went to the Kitty seawall and observed a robbery taking place and men running past him, while the police gave chase. Day added that he stepped aside to allow them to pass and heard one of the persons who was robbed telling the police that he was one of the men that robbed them.
According to Day, he played no part in the robberies and is innocent.
Having heard both Day and the prosecutor, the Chief Magistrate granted the accused his release on $60,000 bail.
The matter will be called again on November 17 before Magistrate Leron Daly.
