With less than six days before the deadline of team submissions, a record turnout is expected for the Qualifying Tournament in the 2017 Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Zone.
According to an official release from tournament coordinators, Three Peat Promotions, “At the moment, we have approximately 39 entrants for the qualifying tournament. At this rate, we will easily acquire more than 50 teams for the qualifiers at the deadline, which will easily surpass last year’s mark. The tournament is growing in appeal and stature and as such, we expect a highly competitive qualifying tournament.”
The registration deadline for the submission of forms is Thursday November 16th, with the Qualifying Tournament slated to begin on the following night at the Meadow Brook Tarmac. The official tournament is slated to kick-off on November 22nd.
The release further said, “A lot of teams have been calling us for registration forms and expressing interest in participating in the qualifying process to get into the main draw, but realistically we might have to cut off entries at some point so that we can keep our deadline for the commencement of the real competition,”.
With 16 sides already assured berths to the 32 team group stage, the remaining 16 positions will be decided during a three night tournament, which will be contested using an elimination format.
Entry forms for the tournament can be uplifted from Banks DIH Caesars Palace at Durban and Hardina streets and from Tournament Coordinator Rawle Welch on 688-1776 and Referee Director Wayne Griffith on 697-7777.
Completed forms can be returned to Banks DIH Caesars Palace or submitted to Welch or Griffith.
