Unbeaten Winners Connection climbed atop the standings in the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) 2017/2018 Senior League, crushing Blueberry Hill 3-0, on Wednesday.
It was the second win for Winners Connection in as many games at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden. Marmarlaque Davidson bagged a brace in the sixth and 90th+1, while Deron Dainty scored in the 33rd minute.
With the victory, Winners Connection aBlueberry Hill remain pointless and drop into the cellar position.
The opening goal occurred following a goalkeeping error, as a right side cross was dropped by the custodian inside the six yard area, allowing the onrushing Davidson a simple tap-in down the centre of the net.
Defender Dainty increased his side’s lead with a clinical strike, racing onto a through pass from Rawle Gittens following a lung-busting run down the centre of the field, before slapping his effort into the back of the net during a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.
Davidson completed the scoreline in the dying moments of the fixture, blasting his effort into the back of the bet, after evading a challenge from a defender at the top of the box.
Meanwhile, Netrockers edged Silver Shattas 4-3. Shane Luckie led the victor with a first half hat-trick in the 17th, 28th and 35th minute, while Joel Beckles scored in the 66th minute.
For the loser, Robin Adams found the back of the net twice in the 19th and 49th minute. Adding a 46th minute effort was Jermaine Williams.
The event resumes today at the same venue with another doubleheader. At 18:00hrs, High Stars oppose Topp XX, while Blueberry Hill engages Eagles at 20:00hrs.
