Dear Editor,
The TIGI statement on President David Granger’s unilateral appointment of James Patterson as the Chairman of GECOM includes an objectionable line that must be called out for what it is.
TIGI said that it is “poignantly aware of the problems that Guyana has had with elections, from the widespread charges of ‘elections rigging’ under the old PNC regime…”
There were no “charges” of elections rigging in Guyana under the PNC. There were proven cases of elections rigging in Guyana under the PNC. Just look at the documentary ‘The Making of a Prime Minister’ by ‘World in Action’ produced by Granada TV. It exposes all types of irregularities in the electoral process that resulted in rigged elections.
When will some organisations, acting as independent voices in Guyana, be willing to call a spade a spade? It is a documented statement of fact that elections were rigged during the 28 years that the PNC held office in Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
Karen Manifold
