Two Dominican Republic nationals who were picked up during a raid conducted at the Rio nightclub were yesterday brought before Magistrate Fabayo Azore to answer to the charge of overstaying their time in Guyana.
Twenty-two-year-old Rosanna Romero Luciano and 37-year old Arelis Adams Encarnacion both pleaded guilty to their charges.
The charge against Luciano stated that from April 8th to November 12th, she failed to comply with the permit which had allowed her to stay in Guyana from March 7th to April 7th.
Luciano said that there are economic problems in her country so she came to Guyana for work. When asked why she had made no effort to apply for an extension to her time here in Guyana, Luciano stated that she was financially unable to apply because all the money she makes is sent to the Dominican Republic to her mom to pay the mortgage, so they would not lose their home.
The charge against Encarnacion stated that from April 22nd to November 12th, she failed to comply with the permit which had allowed her to stay in Guyana from March 22nd to April 21st.
Encarnacion claims that she too did not apply for an extension for her stay in Guyana.
They were fined $30,000 each or three months imprisonment each, if they are unable to pay the fine. Upon payment of the fine or having served their time, they will be escorted to the nearest port of exit from Guyana.
