The Playoff Round of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) 2017 ‘Road to Mecca’ tournament bounces off today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
The opening fixture at 19:00hrs will pit Kobras against the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans while the feature contest at 21:00hrs will see Sonics against Nets in the always entertaining ‘Mandela Avenue’ derby.
The winners will then face-off tomorrow at the same venue with the eventual victor earning a berth to the main draw of the championship.
Ravens, Colts, Pacesetters and Plaisance Guardians are the automatic qualifiers for the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA).
The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) and the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) are yet to finalize their representatives.
The main tournament will official commence December 1st, with the final penciled for December 23rd. The other playing dates are December 3rd, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 13th and 22nd.
Ten teams, divided into two groups of five, will see the best two finishers from each pool, advancing to the semifinal section.
The winners of the semifinal round will then advance to the championship game. A best of three format, will be utilised to decide the eventual champion.
