The inaugural Magnum ‘Tek Charge and Win’, Futsal Christmas Classic was officially launched yesterday at the Windjammer International Hotel and Cuisine, Queen Street, Kitty.
The event, which features 32 teams, will kick off on December 1st at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue. The grand final is slated for December 23rd.
Elimination rounds will be contested on the first three match days with the resulting 16 teams progressing to the group round.
Upon the conclusion of the round robin stage, the top two finishers from each of the four groups, will advance to the quarter-finals.
Edison Jefford, Brand Representative of Magnum and Coordinator of the tournament, said, that the aim of the event is for the development of grassroots football.
According to Jefford, the fans can expect a grand celebration and electric atmosphere that is going to be different from other tournaments.
He said that all systems are in place for safe and well-coordinated championship.
Meanwhile, Director of Sports, Christopher Jones, thanked Ansa McAl for maintaining their corporate responsibility, adding that the National Sports Commission (NSC) was proud to be associated with the event.
He encouraged the teams to grasp the opportunity presented and for the fans to come out and support the tournament.
The other playing dates are December 3rd, December 5th, December 10th, December 12th, December 14th and December 19th.
Winner of the event will receive $500,000 and a trophy while the runners-up will collect $200,000 and a trophy while the third and fourth placed teams will pocket $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and trophies. On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will walk-away with US$100.
Prizes such as head-phones, pop sockets, tee-shirts, and speakers will be given away every night to patrons.
