A construction worker was yesterday sentenced to three years in jail after he admitted to possession of 21 grammes of cannabis.
Shatafia Joseph, 25, who told a city court that he is father of a three-month-old, pleaded guilty to the charge that on November 16th, at America Street, he had 21 grammes of cannabis in his possession for trafficking.
The police prosecutor said that police ranks were on a foot patrol on America Street, where they made contact with Joseph and conducted a search on him. The cannabis was found in a transparent plastic bag in one of his pockets. He was arrested and taken to Brickdam Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence. He was told of the offence and admitted that the cannabis was his, the prosecutor added.
After Joseph’s guilty plea, Magistrate Judy Latchman sentenced him to a three-year sentence and fined him $30,000.
