A labourer was yesterday sentenced to six months in jail, after he admitted to inflicting bodily harm on another individual.
Ryan Persaud, of Albouystown, pleaded guilty to the charge that on November 18, at Kingston Seawall, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Uklin Nurse.
When asked by Magistrate Fabayo Azore if he knew that by pleading guilty there was a chance he would go to jail, Persaud told the court, “I’m willing to go”.
Police Prosecutor Shellon Payne then told the court that on the day in question, at about 3:30 pm the complainant was driving his truck when the defendant took a bench and blocked his path. Nurse then asked the accused why he had blocked his path, which caused Persaud to pick up a bottle and pelt Nurse on his hands, causing him injuries.
When asked by the Magistrate if what the prosecutor had stated was true, the defendant stated yes. Persaud then asked the court to see with him, prior to the Magistrate handing down her sentence.
Magistrate Azore told the accused that she took into consideration his early guilty plea, the facts that the injuries received by the complainant are not life threatening and a dangerous weapon was used.
