Man on ganja trafficking charge granted $125,000 bail

A vendor, who was charged in October with cannabis possession, was yesterday granted bail after the prosecution was unable to serve statements.

It is alleged that Ras Paris, on October 3, at North Ruimveldt, had 448 grammes (equivalent to 0.9 pounds) of cannabis for trafficking.

When the matter was called before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, Police Prosecutor Shellon Payne requested two weeks to have statements presented to the accused.

The defendant’s attorney, George Thomas then told the court that if the prosecutor needed more time to have statements served it should not be at the expense of his client having to be incarcerated. He then requested that Paris be granted reasonable bail.

Magistrate Azore later granted the accused $125,000 bail with the conditions that he lodges his passport and reports to the East La Penitence Police Station every Friday until the completion of his trial.

The matter was then adjourned to December 13.
