Eagles climbed atop the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) Senior League standings, while Blueberry Hill secured their second win of the event, when action continued on Tuesday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden.
Eagles secured their third win in as many games to maintain their unbeaten record, humbling Botafogo 3-1.
Botafogo quickly fell behind the proverbial eight ball in the opening 12 minutes, as Eagles soared to a 2-0 advantage.
Kwesi Quintin placed his effort in the back of the net in the second minute to commence the rout, before Kellon Primo recorded his first of two conversions with a powerful strike in the 11th minute.
Botafogo eventually pulled one back in the 25th minute, as Antwoine Gill etched his name on the scorer’s sheet.
However, any hopes by Botafogo in securing a comeback was extinguished, with Primo recording his second with a clinical conversion in the 58th minute.
With the win, Eagles move onto nine points and leapfrog Netrockers due to their superior goal differential. Meanwhile, Blueberry Hill upset home side Topp XX 3-2.
A first half blitz proved to be difference on the night, as Blueberry Hill raced to a 3-0 halftime lead, only to survive a second half comeback from the hosts.
In the space of six minutes Blueberry Hill romped to commanding lead, as Joshua Douglas, Orel Peters and Kwesi Taffawn scored.
Douglas broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, while Peters made his presence felt two minutes onward. The perfect first half was completed by Taffawn, who scored in the 26th minute.
However, the home side mounted a comeback in the second half, with Travis Watterton reducing the deficit with a 51st minute strike.
The fixture was then poised for a nerve wracking finish, as Keon Hall scored in 80th minute to make it 3-2.
Nonetheless, dogged defending by the Blueberry Hill outfit ensured they held onto their lead and secured the unlikely victory.
Action continues today at the same venue with another double-header. In the opening fixture at 19:00hrs, Topp XX battles Botafogo.
The feature contest will then pit Eagles against Amelia’s Ward Panthers from 21:00hrs. The eventual top four finishers in the tournament will walk away with trophies and cash incentives.
