Guyana’s lone female International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) accredited referee Maurees Skeete departed Monday to officiate in the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association (CONCACAF) 2017 Women’s U-20 quarter-finals.
Skeete is among 12 female referees from the Caribbean region who will participate in the five-day tournament which will determine fixtures for next year’s CONCACAF Women’s U20 final.
According to a Guyana Football Federation (GFF) release, Head of GFF’s Refereeing Department, Stanley Lancaster said, “This is a great achievement for Maurees and Guyana as well. She is following in the footsteps of Diane Ferreira-James who officiated in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada. My desire and goal are that other females aspire, not just to be referees, but to achieve as much as these women.”
The referee delegation arrived at the Marriot Resort & the Royal Beach Casino, St. Kitts and Nevis, on November 20th. They will depart on November 27th.
