With the aid of public-spirited citizens, a businessman managed to disarm a bandit, who attacked him yesterday afternoon on South Road.
Police said the attack occurred around 3.45 pm, when the 46-year-old businessman was about to enter a store on South Road, Bourda, after he had dropped off a customer at a city bank.
According to a police statement, the bandit, who carried a 9 mm Ruger pistol, pounced and demanded that the businessman hand over his money. However, the businessman held onto the weapon and a struggle ensued. Two members of the public then went to the businessman’s assistance and the bandit was disarmed. He, however, fled the scene on a waiting motorcycle.
The 9mm pistol, with twelve live rounds, was handed over to the police, who responded promptly.
