A toddler was killed yesterday morning after he was reportedly crushed to death by a minibus, which his father was reversing out of their yard in Newtown, Kitty.
The child has been identified as is Malachi Willis, 12 months, of Lot 21 D’Andrade Street, Newtown Kitty, Georgetown.
His father, who has been identified as Wayne Willis, was taken into custody for questioning. He was being held up to yesterday afternoon.
Stabroek News was told that Willis was reversing the pit bull minibus, BVV 9628, out of the yard and he was unaware that the child was in its path. It is unclear how the child ended up in the way of the bus.
Wayne Willis was reportedly only alerted to what had occurred after hearing loud screams from his neighbours and other relatives.
Malachi, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed by his father to a city hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The minibus was impounded by the police at the Kitty Police Station.
The Willis family did not wish to comment on the child’s death.
