In excess of 1500 student athletes and teachers from across Guyana will converge in the city and West Demerara to compete in the 57th edition of the National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships which starts today.
The National Aquatic Centre, the National Park and the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora will be buzzing with activities as the students and teachers from the 15 districts battle for medals and one year’s bragging rights.
This afternoon from 16:00hrs at Leonora, the 10km road race will coincide with the opening ceremony which will be followed by the commencement of Track and Field events like the 800m.
Speakers at the opening ceremony will include: Mark Lyte (President of the Guyana Teacher’s Union), Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton and Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry.
Tomorrow, swimming and cycling will be held from 09:00hrs at the Aquatic Centre and the National Park.
