The Guyana Hockey Board and the Squash Association are the only two sporting bodies that have complied with the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) requests in order to receive funding for 2018.
With Budget Day just about 24 hours away, this spell trouble for the federations/associations yet to comply with the NSC’s request.
According to Director of Sport, Chris Jones No federation/association will receive funding unless the information on the respective teams or athletes is submitted. “That is another criteria we are going to put in place,” Jones said on Friday.
Jones added that most of the associations are yet to unveil their 2018 plans, especially with regards to participating in international fixtures. He stressed that the scenario is far from ideal since this will make funding difficult to receive because of the ad hoc manner in which some associations operate with regards to requesting funds for international trips.
He disclosed that a number of infrastructural development projects will form part of the budget allocation as the NSC and the Department of Sport aim to improve the quality of facilities.
