Victoria Kings overcame Milerock while Buxton United needled Ann’s Grove, when season three of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) ‘Elite League’ continued Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden.
Victoria Kings overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Linden unit by a 2-1 score in a bruising affair.
Akeem Greene handed the host the lead in the 11th minute, slotting home into the left corner after latching onto a right side cross from a free-kick outside the right of the box.
However, Milerock’s lead proved to be short-lived as Aubrey Gibson equalised in the 19th minute for the visitors.
Racing onto a through pass, the veteran midfielder rounded the advancing goalkeeper during a one-on-one situation and finished into the net.
Kenneth Opara then found what proved to be the go-ahead winner compliments of a 47th minute conversion.
Lurking inside the penalty area, Opara thumped a loose his effort into the back of the net, after the goalkeeper dropped the ball between two defenders, following a left side corner-kick.
Meanwhile, Buxton United edged fellow East Coast of Demerara outfit Ann’s Grove, 1-0 compliments of a Dillon Wright penalty conversion.
Awarded the spot-kick in the 61st minute for an infraction, Wright made no mistake, as he placed his effort beyond the goalkeeper.
The event resumes today at the 24th at the No.#5 ground, West Coast Berbice. In the opening fixture at 18:00rs, Den Amstel will oppose Cougars.
On the other hand, defending champion Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will battle New Amsterdam (NA) United at 20:00hrs in the feature showdown.
