One of the four men accused of robbing a Brazilian woman and her driver will be spending the next 50 months in jail after he admitted to the crimes yesterday.
It is alleged that on November 24th, at Bel Air Springs, the man identified as Kelon Emperor and two others, Leon Smartt and Nzumi Scipio, used a gun to rob Tasia Da Silva and Daveanand Cooblall.
They allegedly robbed Da Silva of an iPhone 8 plus, valued $200,000, a Samsung phone, valued $20,000, a gold chain, valued $25,000, a gold band, valued $20,000, $277,000 in cash and a purse valued at $7,000, while they allegedly robbed Cooblall of an iPhone, valued $150,000.
Emperor pleaded guilty to both charges while Smartt and Scipio pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Cooblall, who is the personal driver of Da Silva, took her to her sister’s house in Bel Air Springs and as the vehicle came to a stop, Emperor drove up in a Toyota Allion car, PRR 4950, exited the car and entered the complainant’s car, where he relieved them of their valuables.
However, Da Silva used her sister’s phone to track her phone and it led to a house in West Ruimveldt. The complainants along with police ranks went to the house, where the car used in the robbery was parked in front. The stolen items were recovered in the home and Emperor and his co-accused were arrested.
Emperor, who previously served time in prison for possession of a firearm, was sentenced to 50 months in prison for each charge (the sentences will run concurrently), while Scipio and Smartt were both remanded to prison.
