Dear Editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to ask as a supporter of the PPP what exactly are the leaders of the party doing for the Guyanese people? What are the policies and programmes that the PPP is promulgating? How is the electorate supposed to make an informed choice when they do not even know what the PPP stands for?
While the PPP may benefit from the AFC’s dwindling support and lack of credibility with the populace, it cannot realistically expect to win the next general election due in 2020 just by relying on these swing voters.
I am also advocating that the PPP changes the way it elects its leaders to make the process more democratic, as the party leaders are seen as being hypocrites when they preach socialism to the masses yet pursue capitalistic wealth themselves.
The vast majority of APNU+AFC supporters are not going to turn around and vote for the PPP/C because of the APNU+AFC coalition’s dismal performance in government. It did not happen in 1992. It will not happen in 2020.
Small changes can make a big difference; the PPP must be more democratic, practise good governance, be transparent and be more accountable if it is to win the 2020 general election.
Yours faithfully,
Sean Ori
