After 32 of 34 events of this year’s National Schools, Swimming, Cycling and Track and Field Championships were completed in the National Park yesterday the cyclists from Berbice are ahead by seven points.
The riders from the Ancient County have so far amassed 229 points with just the boys’ Open 40Km and the girl’s Open 25Km road races to be contested Friday.
District 10 are sitting on the saddle in second with 222 points while District 13 are in third position on 125 points.
While District Six has the overall spoils in their grasp, the standout individual rider of the day was Jonathan Ramsuchit from District 15.
The 14-year-old from New Amsterdam (District 15) earned two gold medals and a silver in his three events. 
Ramsuchit got off to a flyer in his first event of the day; the 3000 metre boy’s U-16. He maintained his consistent start by keeping up with the early leader Denzil Huntley (District 10). Howeve,r on the second and final lap Ramsuchit changed gears and made his move with 200 metres left to leave Huntley in his wake and crossed the finish line in a time of four minutes 52 seconds to claim his first gold of the day.
Ramsuchit returned to win the 2000m but in his final event of the day, Huntley got a bit of revenge when he pipped Ramsuchit by 2/100s of a second to win gold in the 1500 metres race.
The 57th edition of ‘Nationals’ will continue today from 09:00hrs at the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora, West Coast Demerara with track and field events which conclude Friday.
