Georgetown and Essequibo on Sunday last recorded wins in fourth round action of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Jaguars one – day league.
The City side managed to scamper past West Berbice by one wicket in their match which was reduced to 20-overs-a-side.
West Berbice, batting first was dismissed for 98 in 19.2 overs with Arthur Bailey top scoring with a 30-ball 24 which included three fours.
Georgetown’s skipper Leon Johnson was the most successful bowler with 5 – 26 while seamer Paul Wintz (2-6) continued to prove his worth in the shorter format.
Georgetown in reply, made heavy weather of the small target but eventually reached 98 – 9 in 19.2 overs with opening batsmen Robin Bacchus (22) and Andrew Lyght Jr., (17) aiding the chase with a swift opening stand of 39 while Derwin Christian (17) Ramaal Lewis (15*) helped complete the victory.
Andrew Dutchin (3-11) was the pick of the bowlers for West Berbice.
In the other match Essequibo made light work of East Coast, recording a nine-wicket win at the Iman Bacchus ground in Essequibo.
East Coast, batting first, scored 169 – 9 in 40 overs with Kamesh Yadram leading the way with an unbeaten 54 off 60 balls.
Spin trio Ricardo Adams (3-42), Anthony Adams (2-20) and Akini Adams (2-25) were once again the chief architects of Essequibo’s consistent bowling effort.
The Cinderella County side duly reached 172 – 1 in the 34th over with former West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul stroking an unbeaten 74, a knock which included four fours and two maximums to see his team to another victory.
Lower Corentyne, with 27 points, leads the points standings while Essequibo is not too far behind on 25.
West Demerara (20), Georgetown (17), Upper Corentyne (12), West Berbice (8), East Bank (3) and East Coast (0) complete the standings.
