Two Corentyne women and a labourer were jointly charged last Friday with stealing some forty head of cattle.
Sandreena Sanichar, 23, and Stephanie Drepaul, 25, both of Lot 85, Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne and Suraj Persaud, 27, a labourer of Lot 4, Tain Settlement, Corentyne appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court, where they were jointly charged. The charge read that the trio between Thursday, November 16 and Monday, November 20 at No.62 Village, Corentyne stole forty head of cow, valued at $3 million, property of Nandkishore Tajram. The unrepresented trio were each placed on $400,000 bail.
Stabroek News was told that all three accused have since posted bail and will return to the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court on December 20.
Meanwhile, according to information gathered, Tajram on November 17, visited the Number 62 Police Outpost and lodged a stolen or stray-cattle report. According to the report, his forty head of cattle, branded with his registered identification mark of DON14, which had been left grazing outside of his ranch at Number 62 Village, Corentyne, were missing. However, acting on information received on November 19, two police ranks went to a ranch located in the backlands of Bloomfield Village, Corentyne, in the company of Tajram. However, the owner refused to allow the policemen and the cattle farmer entry to the property. The following day, a larger party of police returned to the ranch, which is reportedly owned by a resident of Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne. However, upon noticing the police’s arrival, the owner of the ranch and several workers fled the area.
According to a police press release, twenty-three head of cattle, including three calves, were found on the ranch, eighteen of which bore Tajram’s brand.
Persaud, one of the labourers at the ranch, was placed under arrest on the said day.
Meanwhile, according to a police source, ranks are still searching for the ranch owner and his son, who are related to the two females who have been charged.
