A 34-year-old Guyhoc Park vendor will be spending the next three months in prison for a larceny, which he said was driven by hunger.
It was alleged that John Beresford, at Robb Street, on November 28th, stole a power pack charger, valued $20,000, an air freshener, valued, $600, a USB cable, valued, $1,000, a USB charger, valued $1,500, a pack of dental sticks, valued, $1,000 and an iPad, valued $40,000.
Before the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown, Beresford sat in the prisoners’ dock, laughing and speaking to himself while the court was in session.
He subsequently pleaded guilty to the charge. When asked why he committed the crime, he stated that he was hungry.
The prosecutor told the court that the owner of the stolen goods went to work and parked his vehicle with the items left inside. When he returned to the car, he observed that the items were missing. Acting on information received, Beresford was picked up and a search was conducted at his place of residence, where all the items, except the iPad, were recovered.
