A pensioner was killed on Tuesday when an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that he was riding on toppled along a trail at Paramakatoi.
At the time of the accident, the deceased, Richard Aaron, 79, of Paramakatoi, was the pillion rider on the vehicle, which belongs to the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.
The accident occurred around 2.30 pm.
Police said the vehicle, with registration number CG 8510, was being driven by Eggor Aaron down a trail when it developed mechanical problems. As a result, the driver lost control. The ATV then toppled and the senior Aaron was thrown off. The rider and public-spirited citizens rushed him to the Paramakatoi Health Centre, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The rider was taken into police custody.
