Overseas-based Guyanese Ahmad ‘Prince Ally’ Ally is currently on one of his frequent visits to Guyana. This time around, he is launching his brand new Christmas Dance Mix album that consists of 18 Christmas Classics; it will be released in the coming weeks.
What makes this album distinct is the new twist that was added to it. The Christmas Dance Mix is a fusion of genres – Reggae, Dancehall and Soca and has more of an upbeat tempo. The mixed album are covers by mostly Guyanese artistes including Mark Holder, Terry B, the late Pamela Maynard and of course Prince Ally himself. Also on the album are the voices of other recording artistes from Guyana and Jamaica, based in Toronto.
Prince Ally, a native of Berbice, left the shores of Guyana in 1985 for Toronto, Canada but has been returning two or three times every year. Then five years later, the singer released his first single. A year later he won the Canadian Reggae Music Award.
Twenty-six years since his award, Ally has produced 18 albums to date and done more than 300 concerts. He stated that almost every year he is booked for 10 shows or more in New York, London, Canada, the Cayman Islands and other parts of the Caribbean and just recently right here in Guyana alongside the Yoruba Singers.
Prince Ally has performed in concert with and also done recordings for some artistes such as Glenn Washington, Dobby Dobson, Sean Paul, Super Cat, Beenie Man and Beres Hammond among others.
Some of the covers Prince Ally has done include Lionel Richie’s “Hello” and Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”. His originals include “We Are Only Lovers,” “People of the World,” “Ethiopian Rock” and “Prescription Drug”.
He said that “Prescription Drug” is one of his features in another album ‘Close Up With Prince Ally’ that he plans on releasing early next year.
Both of his latest albums are being released under Ally Talent International Production.
“Joy To the World,” “Old Toy Trains” and “Auld Lang Syne” from the Christmas mix have been uploaded to YouTube.
The Christmas Dance Mix can be picked up at a cost of $1,000 a copy.
The artiste works full time in his business ‘Island Music Shop’ where he sells and promotes songs recorded by Caribbean artistes.
