The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) paid homage to former NABF lightweight champion, Terrence Ali by naming their National Open Championships after him.
One of boxers that looks up to Ali, Keevin Allicock then punched his way to the Best Boxer award.
Allicock, a Commonwealth Youth Games silver medalist shone the brightest of all the up and coming stars of the fistic sport and lifted the coveted piece of hardware of the annual three-night event.
At the event which concluded Sunday night at National Gymnasium, the Forgotten Youth Foundation product recorded a scintillating win against Clairmont Gibson in the bantamweight division to cement his status as the best elite boxer of the championship.
The 17 year-old who continues to climb the ranks locally and regionally will be high on the shortlist of boxers who will represent Guyana at the Caribbean Development Championships billed for December 9-13 in St Lucia.
At last year’s edition of the championships in Barbados, the fighting pride of Albouystown boxed his way to a gold medal.
Allicock’s victory helped the FYF Gym to finish second behind Powerhouse, GDF for the overall gym honors.
Meanwhile, among the 50 plus entries which showcased their skill at the venue, Christopher Moore was adjudged the best youth boxer with the most potential.
Terrence Poole of GDF snared the best coach award.
