Den Amstel successfully retained the Derick Josiah Memorial Football Championship, defeating Pouderoyen FC on penalty kicks on Friday at the Den Amstel ground.
Following a 1-1 score at the end of normal and extra time, the host prevailed 4-2 on penalty kicks to maintain their grip on the championship.
Prior to the penalty shoot-out win, Den Amstel fell behind to an Esan Nelson strike in the 8thminute. However Gavin Graham equalised for the home side in the 70th minute.
With the win, Den Amstel walked away with $125,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up pocketed $100,000 and the corresponding accolade. Meanwhile, Uitvlugt hammered Young Achievers 5-0 in the third place playoff.
Trayon Bobb bagged a double in the 38th and 52nd minute, while Shemar Hartman, Casper Evans and Scion Prince netted in the 13th, 57th and 66th minute apiece.
Uitvlugt won $50,000 and a trophy while Young Achievers received $25,000.
