Den Amstel climbed atop the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) ‘Elite League’ standings after defeating Buxton United 4-2 yesterday at the Den Amstel Community ground.
It was a clinical second half performance from the home side following a scoreless opening half.
The quartet of Kevon Ward, Gavin Graham, Keswyn Fraser and Morgan Denny scored in the 64th, 72nd, 78th and 89th minute respectively.
For the visitors, Phil Hughes and Kobe Durant netted in the 83rd and 90th+3 minute apiece.
Due to the result, Den Amstel climb onto six points and secure the top spot due to their superior goal scoring record.
Buxton United remains on three points and in sixth place. Meanwhile, Victoria Kings continued their unbeaten run compliments of a 4-0 thrashing of newcomers Cougars FC.
Aubrey Gibson led the rout with a double in the 10th and 60th minute. He was supported by the duo of Calvin DeSouza and Odessie Johnson, who found the back of the net in the 38th and 63rd minute apiece.
On target in the loss was Mark Wronge in the 13th minute. With the win, Victoria Kings moves to six points, leapfrogging Fruta Conquerors to claim the second position, due to their better scoring record.
Cougars FC is in the cellar position and remain pointless. The event resumes on Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden, with another doubleheader.
At 18:00hrs, New Amsterdam (NA) United tackles Ann’s Grove while the main clash at 20:00hrs will pit Guyana Defence Force (GDF) against Milerock.
