DHAKA, Bangladesh, CMC – West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite played small but crucial roles with bat and ball, to help fire Khulna Titans to a 14-run victory over Marlon Samuels’s Comilla Victorians, in the Bangladesh Premier League here yesterday.
Electing to bat first at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Titans piled up 174 for six off their 20 overs, with opener Nazmul Hossain top-scoring with 37 and Ariful Haque, chipping in with 35.
Nazmul added 55 for the first wicket with Australian Michael Klinger (29) and a further 32 for the second wicket with captain Mahmudullah, who struck a run-a-ball 23.
When the innings slipped to 103 for four in the 15th over, Brathwaite arrived to blast a 12-ball 22, with three fours and a six, anchoring a 47-run stand with Ariful which reinvigorated the innings.
In reply, Victorians were held to 160 for seven off their 20 overs, with medium pacer Brathwaite producing a miserly spell of one for 15 from three overs, to strangle the scoring.
Veteran Shoaib Malik and opener Tamim Iqbal both scored 36 while Samuels stroked an unbeaten 25 from 16 deliveries, with a pair of fours and sixes.
