Dear Editor,
The Beacon Foundation would like to notify its cancer patients and families that it is at present unable to provide morphine to treat their pain. The Foundation has been obtaining supplies of this drug in the past through the kindness of the Ministry of Health. However, the Ministry has no morphine in stock and is not sure when next supplies will be available.
For the past thirty years the Beacon Foundation has operated a hospice service in which three nurses treat terminally ill cancer patients in their own homes free of charge. Treatment is so effective that virtually no one dies in pain. We are hopeful the Ministry of Health will be able to correct this problem soon.
Yours faithfully,
Clairmont Lye
Secretary
Beacon Foundation
