Beacons FC and Edinburgh Gunners secured contrasting wins when the GT Beer Berbice 8-a-side football tournament continued on Friday at the Scot’s School ground, New Amsterdam (NA).
Beacons FC was in a rampant mood in their encounter with Orealla Falcons, clipping their foe by a 6-0 score.
Although the first half only produced one goal via a Christian Garraway strike in the 25th+3 minute, Beacons turned on the quality in the second half, recording five unanswered goals in a thoroughly lopsided affair.
Kimba Brathwaite and Travis Lyken quickly increased their side’s advantage with goals in the 33rd and 38th minute respectively. However, it was Deon Alfred that stole the show, as he bagged a hat-trick.
The nippy Alfred etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 41st, 47th and 48th minute. Meanwhile, Edinburgh Gunners battled past Soccer City 4-2.
Joseph Giddings was the difference on the night as he recorded a first hat-trick in the ninth, 19th and 25th minute.
Also adding to the score in the 12th minute was Shamal Nicholson. For the losers, Lerone Henry and Kwesi Mickel found the back of the net in the 11th and 38th minute respectively.
The tournament resumes today at the same venue with another doubleheader. In the opening match at 19:30hrs, Republicans battle Rosignol United, while the feature contest will pit Hopetown FC against Berbice Police from 21:30hrs.
Winner of the event will receive $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the runner-up will pocket $300,000 and the corresponding accolade.
On the other hand, the third place finisher will receive $100,000 and a trophy. On the individual side, the Highest Goal Scorer and the Best Goalkeeper will pocket $50,000 each. The tournament is also sponsored by Fly Jamaica.
