A Port Kaituma truck driver was yesterday charged with converting raw gold that he had been entrusted to deliver to another man.
The charge against Seon Goodman, 37, states that on December 6th, at Black Banana Backdam, North West District, being solely entrusted by Joan Jeffrey with one ounce of raw gold valued, $220,000, he converted it to his own use and benefit, instead of delivering it to Marlon Pierre.
Goodman pleaded not guilty to the charge. His attorney, Tiffany Jeffrey, stated that a parcel was given to Goodman by the complainant. She, however, stated that Goodman’s truck was involved in an accident and several items flew out the truck into the bush. She noted that he wasn’t found with the item on him or any cash amounting to the value of the item.
The prosecutor made no objections to bail being granted but requested that if bail was granted Goodman be ordered to report to the Port Kaituma Police Station every Friday.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan granted Goodman $150,000 bail and ordered that he report to the Port Kaituma Police Station every fortnight until the matter is called on February 6th 2018 at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
