A man gripped by malaria pains was yesterday brought before a city court to answer to a charge that he had damaged two window screens.
Jonathan Alphonso, gripping his stomach, groaning in pain and barely able to stand, told Magistrate Fabayo Azore, after being asked what was wrong, that he has malaria and only recently began treatment.
Magistrate Azore then permitted Alphonso to sit while the charge was read to him.
The charge stated that Alphonso, of South Ruimveldt Gardens, unlawfully and maliciously damaged two window screens, on December 9, in Georgetown, valued at $250,000, property of Steven Wellington.
Alphonso denied the allegation.
The prosecutor made no objection to bail being granted.
Subsequently, the accused was granted $25,000 bail and the matter adjourned to January 10.
