Saturday’s upcoming showdown between two-time defending champions Sparta Boss and Gold is Money is the perfect conclusion for the record-setting 2017 Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Zone.
And if the organisers are to believed there is no better matchup than the upcoming one between the two antagonists.
“The Georgetown Zone Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ competition could not ask for a better matchup between two teams that clearly deserves to contest the final of this year’s event at the Demerara Park, which has seen record turnouts in every community that the games were played,” a release from the organisers Three-Peat Promotions stated.
“Friends and foes of the reigning champion were questioning whether they had lost their aura and were no longer unbeatable but they’ve answered in emphatic fashion and will now have the opportunity to defend their title against a team that has been playing the most impressive football in the tournament,” the release added.
Sparta Boss boast an impeccable record in the Guinness tournament.
They have won two consecutive Georgetown titles coupled with two national championships, a record which is unrivalled.
They have appeared in five overall finals and Saturday’s final will be their third consecutive in the Georgetown zone.
In an effort to improve their chances of securing an unprecedented third consecutive Georgetown title, it is reported that the North East la Penitence unit will reacquire the services of talismanic forward Devon Millington, who is currently overseas.
In the absence of Millington, Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson has led the strike-force admirably in partnership with Sheldon Shepherd, Eusi Phillips, Courtney Britton and Cleon Forrester.
On the other hand, the West Ruimveldt-based unit also faces a similar situation following the absence of Hubert Pedro, who is currently plying his trade abroad.
However, it is uncertain if Pedro will be available for the championship match. Nevertheless, sibling Randolph Wagner has filled the void brilliantly in conjunction with Phillip Rowley, Jamal Pedro and Deon Alfred, players capable of winning matches single-handedly on either side of the field.
