A miner was yesterday remanded to prison by a city Magistrate, after he was charged with the murder of a Venezuelan national, who was allegedly beaten to death last Friday evening.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the charge to David Gaskin, which alleged that he, on December 8, at Eteringbang, murdered Owen Williams John.
Gaskin, 36, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
Police prosecutor Sumeil Evans told the court that the file in relation to the matter is incomplete.
Subsequently, the defendant was remanded to prison by the Chief Magistrate and the matter was adjourned to March 20, 2018, when it is expected to be called at the Kamarang Magistrate’s court.
The police had said that the defendant and Williams were consuming alcohol when an argument ensued leading to a fight. As a result, Williams was badly beaten and later succumbed as a result of his injuries.
It is alleged that the argument which led to the death of Williams, erupted after Williams asked the suspect for monies owing to him.
