Guyana’s four-member team of boxers have all progressed to the medal round of the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament which concludes tonight in St Lucia.
Dubbed the ‘Demolition Crew’, Keevin Allicock, Colin Lewis, Joel Williamson and Desmond Amsterdam are all in the finals and assured of at least silver medals in the aftermath of winning their respective preliminary fights within the distance.
In the finals tonight, Allicock (bantamweight), the best boxer of the recently concluded National Open Championships and a silver medalist at this year’s Commonwealth Youth Games, will fight Ajayi Jones of Barbados. Lewis (light welterweight) will battle Jessie Jones, also of Barbados, while Williamson (lightweight) will clash with Michael Alexander of Trinidad and Tobago.
Alexander is a 2014 Youth Commonwealth Games bronze medalist.
Amsterdam’s opponent was not named up to press time.
