An East Coast Demerara taxi driver is the latest victim of a spate of carjackings over recent months. Police yesterday said that Ramesh Persaud of Lot 4 Triumph, ECD was robbed of his Toyota Allion which was valued at $3.5M.
Information reaching Stabroek News stated that Persaud, who is a driver attached to Kitty Cabs Taxi Service located on Sheriff Street was hired by a female to go to Carmichael Street yesterday afternoon. The hijacking occurred at around 5.50 pm.
Upon arriving at the passenger’s destination, Persaud was helping to unload her bags when they were pounced upon by the carjackers. Police said the men who were armed with guns pointed their weapons at Persaud and instructed him to move away from his vehicle.
Fearful for his life, Persaud obeyed. At this stage the men jumped into the vehicle and made good their escape east on Middle Street then south into Waterloo Street.
A number of cars have been hijacked in recent weeks.
