After four days of races which attracted in excess of 300 athletes, the curtain for the seventh edition King Medas event came down on Sunday at the Buxton Community Centre Ground with the 5K Classic.
Top distance athlete, Winston Missigher and his Running Brave Athletic Club mates, Cleveland Thomas and Devon Barrington swept the podium spots for the open male class while Alicia Fortune emerged winner of the Masters Female category with Collia Rowe placing first in the Senior Female category.
Larry Josiah, Orin Josiah and Charles Williams finished in the top three spots in the Masters Male category.
In excess of $3M in prizes were distributed to the top finishers of all the respective categories while other prizes like laptops and desktops were also awarded to winners.
Director of Sports, Christopher Jones promised that the event will be bigger next year and indicated it will be held during August of 2018 as it will help to encourage more participation from the schools.
The event’s organiser, Andy King-Medas thanked the participants for their support and urged the athletes to remain steadfast in their training and find the right balance with their academics since next year he will attempt to fund scholarships to the University of Guyana.
King-Medas was also extremely appreciative of Banks DIH who hydrated the athletes under their Rainforest Water and Powerade brands.
