Wayne Gilbert, one of the three escapees from the Golden Grove Police Station on Tuesday, was yesterday taken to the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to a murder charge.
The charge stated that Gilbert on 20th January this year at Croal Street, Stabroek, murdered Rawle Rodrigues in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
Gilbert was not required to plead to the charge. He will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on December 21st.
Gilbert was one of three escapees from the Golden Grove Police Station on Tuesday. Stabroek News was told that Gilbert’s father handed him over to the police at the Brickdam Station at 11.50 pm on the said date.
Rodrigues, 43, of 64, Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was in the vicinity of the bus park at around 9.30 pm, when he had an altercation with two men. One of the men later stabbed him in the chest. Rodrigues was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
