A man was yesterday taken to the Georgetown Magistrate’s court to answer to charges of defrauding persons by pretending to be First Lady Sandra Granger.
The first charge states that Mohammed Ally on April 23rd at KK Gas Station Mahaica, with intent to defraud obtained 12 pennyweights of raw gold valued $139,000, by falsely pretending to be First Lady Sandra Granger, stating that he was in a position to grant a scholarship.
It was not stated how he had pretended to be the First Lady.
The second charge states that between April 1st and 30th at Tuschen with intent to defraud Ally obtained $30,000 in phone cards from Bagmattie Singh, by falsely pretending to be Mrs Granger, stating that he was in a position to grant her a scholarship.
The final charge states that Ally on April 22nd at Mahdia with intent to defraud obtained $20,000 in GTT phone cards and $10,000 in Digicel phone cards by falsely pretending to be Mrs Granger.
Ally pleaded not guilty to all the charges and stated that he did not pretend to be the First Lady but he did defraud persons.
He is set to return to court on December 21st before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for re-assignment.
