The inaugural GT Beer Berbice 8-aside Football Championship will continue today at the Scott’s School ground, New Amsterdam (NA), with an exciting quarterfinal doubleheader.
The opening clash of the evening will pit Rosignol United against Georgetown Police from 19:30hrs. A clinical performance will be required from the quintet of Cornel Taylor, Keron Arthur, Shane Gangoo, Okano Rigby and Royan Solomon, if Rosignol are to be successful.
On the other side, the lawmen will depend on their strike-force of Quincy Holder, Dwain Jacobs, Kester Dundas, Winston Tanner and Lerone Charles, to fire them to victory.
The feature matchup of the night will witness giants Edinburgh Gunners matching skills with Black Sharks from 21:00hrs.
Joseph Giddings, scorer of a hat-trick in Edinburgh’s previous fixture, will need to replicate another clinical performance, alongside the trident of Sherwin Nicholson, Ronaldo August and Sherlock Phillips, for Edinburgh to realize a semi-final berth.
For Black Sharks, much will be expected from the foursome of Linden Joseph, Shaquille Batson, Quincy Crandon and Delon Giddings, come kickoff time.
The respective victors of the fixtures will join Beacons and Monedderlust FC in the semi-final round. Beacons in their most recent engagement, thrashed Golden Stars by a 4-0 scoreline.
On the other hand, Monedderlust disarmed Arsenal by a 2-0 scoreline. Meanwhile in the final group standings, Edinburgh topped Group-A with 12 points, while Rosignol finished in the second position on nine points.
Young Strikers ended in the third spot on four points, while Soccer City finished on a solitary point. Group-B was secured by Beacons with nine points, while Arsenal ended as the runner-up on five points.
Berbice Police and Hopetown ended on four points each. Similarly, Georgetown Police clinched group-C after ending on nine points. They were followed by Black Sharks, who finished on six points.
Mahaicony and Corriverton Links finished on two and one point respectively. Meanwhile, Monedderlust secured group-D with nine points, while Golden Stars secured the second position after finishing on six points.
Mahaica Determinators ended in the third position on three points, while Orealla Falcons finished pointless.
Winner of the event will receive $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the runner-up will pocket $300,000 and the corresponding accolade.
On the other hand, the third place finisher will receive $100,000 and a trophy.
On the individual side, the Highest Goal Scorer and the Best Goalkeeper will pocket $50,000 each. The tournament is also sponsored by Fly Jamaica.
