On a night that featured a whopping 16 goals, Georgetown (GT) Police and Edinburgh Gunners secured their semi-final berths, when the inaugural GT Beer Berbice 8-aside Football Championship continued on Friday.
The lawmen brutalized Rosignol United by a 7-2 scoreline at the Scott’s School ground, New Amsterdam (NA). Anthio Wallace was the guilty rank in the assault, firing a tournament high six shots.
Wallace feasted on the porous Rosignol back-line, scoring three goals in either half in the lopsided encounter.
The skillful attacker found the back of the net in the sixth, 29th and 30th+2 minute, before returning in the second stanza, to deliver three more shots on target in the 35th, 42nd and 60th+1 minute.
He was supported by a Keron Boston conversion in the 57th minute. For the loser, Dequan Rigby and Kevon McKenzie etched their name on the scorer’s sheet in the 27th and 54th minute respectively.
Meanwhile, Edinburgh Gunners riddled Black Sharks 5-2. The combination of Sherlock Phillips and Joseph Giddings dismantled the opposing rearguard.
Phillips tallied a deserved hat-trick in the 13th, 29th and 47th minute, while Giddings bagged a double in the 27th and 52nd minute. On the other side, Shaquille Batson scored in the 18th minute, alongside a 45th minute own goal.
With the respective wins, GT Police will take aim at Monedderlust FC, and Edinburgh Gunners will battle Beacons, in the semi-final stage tomorrow (Monday) at the same venue.
Winner of the event will receive $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the runner-up will pocket $300,000 and the corresponding accolade.
On the other hand, the third place finisher will receive $100,000 and a trophy.
On the individual side, the Highest Goal Scorer and the Best Goalkeeper will pocket $50,000 each. The tournament is also sponsored by Fly Jamaica.
