Young Achievers and tournament host Den Amstel, secured their respective semi-final berths, when the inaugural GT Beer Year-end Football Championship, commenced on Saturday.
Young Achievers grounded Eagles by a 5-1 scoreline at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground. Stephon Jupiter was the chief destroyer in the rout, tallying an impressive hat-trick.
The lanky forward recorded his brace with goals in the third and sixth minute to put his side firmly in control. Eagles eventually reduced the deficit in the 46th minute, as Jalen Williams scored.
However, Jupiter effectively ended the contest compliments of a 65th-minute conversion.
Shemroy Cumberbatch got into the ‘goal rush’ with a 66th minute effort, before Lloyd Prince sealed the scoreline via a 76th minute strike.
Meanwhile, Den Amstel needled Crane Rovers 4-3 on sudden death penalty kicks, after regulation and extra time ended scoreless.
The knockout event which will be played for a top prize of $400,000, features eight teams battling for a coveted spot in the January 7th finale.
The competing teams are Young Achievers, Eagles United, Golden Warriors, Stewartville, Pouderoyen, Uitvlugt and Wales United.
Winner of the competition will receive $400,000 and the championship trophy, while the runner-up will pocket $200,000 and the corresponding accolade.
The third and fourth place finisher will walk away with $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
