Defending champion Colts successfully retained their Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) ‘Road to Mecca’ Club Championship, edging Linden unit Victory Valley Royals 85-83 on Sunday.
Hosted at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Shelroy Thomas accumulated 28 points, five steals and two blocks in the win, while Dave Causway added 12 points, six assists and Stanton Rose tallied 12 points, five rebounds.
Shane Webster supported with 11 points, five rebounds, while Dennis Niles, Dane Kendall and Kurt English added eight, six and six points respectively.
For Royals, Harold Adams registered 25 points, with Orlan Glasgow providing capable support with 19 points and Chris Williams adding 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Assisting with 12 and seven points were Yannick Tappin and Marlon Pollydore respectively.
Due to the result, Colts walked away with $600,000 and retained the championship trophy, while Royals collected $400,000 and the runner-up accolade.
Meanwhile in the third place playoff, Kobras defeated Ravens 76-75. Travis Burnette recorded impressive figures of 34 points, four rebounds and two assists in the win.
Mark Richards was the next best scorer with 12 points, five rebounds, while Jermaine Slater added 11 points, 18 rebounds and Carlos Edwards netted 11 points.
Chipping in with eight points was Kevin Evans. For the loser, Dominic Vicente shot his way to 21 points, while Tyrone Hamid recorded 17 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and two blocks.
Ryan Stephney chipped in with 14 points, 10 rebounds, while Darcel Harris added 12 points, seven rebounds. Adding eight points was Sebastian Luke.
With the win, Kobras walked away with $200,000 and a trophy, while Ravens copped a trophy.
On the individual side, Webster of Colts was adjudged the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), with overall figures of 95 points, 58 Rebounds, eight Steals and four Assists. He walked away with $100,000.
The burley Webster also collected the Best Rebounder Award for his 58 rebounds. On the other hand, Adams of Royals tallied 122 total points to secure the Highest Scorer Award.
Meanwhile, Guyana Basketball Official Council (GBOC) received $100,000 towards the development of the association.
