The driver who allegedly caused the death of 17-year-old Jhamallie Niles was yesterday placed on $500,000 bail.
On October 14th, it is alleged that Lennox De Nobrega drove motor vehicle PRR 7624 on Mandela Avenue in a manner dangerous to the public causing the death of Niles.
The 36-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge. His attorney stated that on the said date he was proceeding eastwards on Mandela Avenue when the deceased ran out of a car wash and into the path of his client’s vehicle.
The prosecutor made no objections to bail.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan placed him on $500,000 bail and adjourned the matter to January 15th.
It was previously reported that the accident occurred around 8.30pm on Saturday, October 14, shortly after Niles had crossed Mandela Avenue.
The driver of the car, which carried licence plate PRR 7624, was arrested and subsequently released on station bail.
Niles, called ‘Bow Foot,’ was a vendor of West Ruimveldt. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
