CAL’s ATR planes giving trouble

(Trinidad Guardian) Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL)’s entire fleet of five ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft have been down for the last three days, forcing the airline to press into service its fleet of Boeing-737-800 jet aircraft to alleviate the backlog of stranded passengers.

TTOC crowns relay men

Harmon shares 300 sanitation hampers in Albouystown

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon and representatives from the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), the Mayor and City Council (MCC) of Georgetown and the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), yesterday distributed 300 sanitation hampers to residents of Albouystown who have been affected by flooding due to the seasonal rains.

Klopp backs Salah to maintain scoring form

LAUNCESTON, Tasmania, , CMC – Teenaged batting star Hayley Matthews was among the runs in a losing cause here yesterday as her West Indies Women’s skipper, Stafanie Taylor, snatched a four-wicket haul to fire Sydney Thunder to a convincing seven-wicket victory over Hobart Hurricanes.

Anthony Drayton, a resident of Lodge and Candidate chess master, ended 2017 on a high as he won the inaugural Caribbean Chess Cup in Barbados earlier this month. He finished the tournament with a clear one point lead. Drayton gained the FIDE title of Candidate Master at the last chess Olympiad held at Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2016. He was once Guyana’s national junior champion.

The year in chess

Guyana’s chess for 2017 has both been invigorating and disappointing. On the positive side, the Berbice Chess Association was established, an overture was made to the Georgetown Prison, Guyana was represented at an important World Chess Federation (FIDE) overseas meeting, the Berbice Inter-Schools Chess Championship was held and Guyana won the inaugural Caribbean Chess Cup.

Dear Editor, President David Granger has announced the appointment of four new senior counsel, and it is disappointing that no Berbician is named, although the county has outstanding lawyers who could be elevated to the inner bar.
