A photographer was on Friday evening robbed of cash and jewellery at gunpoint on Mandela Avenue.
Stabroek News understands that the incident took place around 11:30 pm while the victim, Paul Kandasammy was making his way along Mandela Avenue.
Reports indicate that Kandasammy who is a photographer by profession was walking south when he noticed two men on a motorcycle acting in a suspicious manner heading in the other direction.
However, instead of continuing on their way, the men turned around and pulled up alongside Kandasammy. The pillion rider dismounted the motorcycle, took out a firearm and pointed it towards him before snatching his gold chain from around his neck and demanding that he hand over his money.
Without putting up a fight, Kandasammy took out his money, the sum of which was given as $163,000 and a gold chain valued $600,000 and threw it on the road. The men picked up the money and escaped south along Mandela Avenue.
Investigations into the matter are said to be ongoing.
