Two men were on Friday sentenced to 12 months in jail after they admitted to stealing over $200,000 in in goods from a city seawall vendor.
Alex Bernard, 20, and Seon Adams, 19, of Campbellville, were read a robbery charge by Magistrate Judy Latchman in Georgetown.
It was alleged that the two on January 2nd, at Seawall Road, Georgetown, stole a $65,000 fridge, a $45,000 cart and a quantity of alcoholic beverages and other drinks. The stolen items, which were the property of Noel Blair, amounted to $202,000 in total.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the complainant secured his cart and fridge, containing the drinks, with chains and a lock and went home. Police on patrol in the area on January 3rd, 2018 saw the defendants pushing the cart and fridge and acting in a suspicious manner. The defendants were then stopped and questioned but were unable to give a proper account of what they were doing and they were taken into custody.
Sometime later in the day, the prosecutor noted, the complainant returned to his stall and discovered his articles missing. He then filed a report at the Alberttown Police Station and based on information received he was taken to the Kitty Police Station, where he identified the stolen items.
As a result of the men pleading guilty to the charge, Magistrate Latchman sentenced both to 12 months in jail.
